Dental Anesthesiologist (Sleep Dentist)
Dr. Ryan Allred, Caring Smiles sleep dentist expert, loves being able to make every patient’s experience an easy and comfortable one. He completed his residency in dental anesthesia at Loma Linda University Medical Center. During his residency, Dr. Allred received extensive experience providing general anesthesia in the hospital operating room for a variety of surgical procedures.
Dr. Allred’s distinctive interdisciplinary training makes him uniquely trained to provide the highest quality of dental anesthesia in a manner which is safe and convenient for both the dentist and the patient in the dental office. His expertise as a sleep dentist, paired with his sensitive and amiable character, make the experience second to none.
Dr. Allred lives in Sherwood, Oregon with his wife and 3 sons. Most of his free time is spent doing activities of his children’s choice, which generally means building Lego creations or going on bike rides to the park.
General Dentist
Dr. Brooke Appelhans DDS, the general dentist with Caring Smiles Dental, has wanted to be a dentist since she was a young girl. Her passion for dentistry led her to Hastings College in Nebraska where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry. In 2021 Dr. Appelhans graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. After dental school Dr. Appelhans completed a General Practice Residency at OHSU which strengthened her general dental skills and her ability to treat patients with special needs and patients with complex medical conditions. Caring Smiles is thrilled Dr. Appelhans joined the Caring Smiles Dental team and welcomed her in July 2022.
As a general dentist, Dr. Appelhans is especially interested in each patient’s well being and helping them have excellent dental health. Patients who are nervous or experience dental anxiety are especially welcomed by Dr. Appelhans. Her compassion, gentleness and excellent dental skills, including specific skills helping ease patients’ dental anxiety, will help each patient have a positive experience while having their dental treatment. Dr. Appelhans is excited to get to know each of her patients and is looking forward to meeting you soon.
Dr. Appelhans grew up on the Great Plains in Colorado and moved to the Northwest for her dental residency program at OHSU. She has “fallen in love” with the Northwest and enjoys exploring all the area has to offer. When Dr. Appelhans isn’t working; she may be out hiking a beautiful trail in the Columbia Gorge or in the Mt. Hood wilderness area. When she isn’t hiking she may be enjoying time with her kitty Fergie, or exploring the many interesting local shops, vineyards, antique stores, parks, and restaurants in the area.

Marie has worked as a dental hygienist in children’s dentistry as well as in more complicated periodontal offices for almost 30 years. She started her career in Arizona then continued practicing hygiene in Germany and Southern Florida. She has lived in Oregon for the past 24 years and loves it.
Marie’s primary goal as a dental hygienist is helping patients overcome dental fears. Marie believes that the best way to put people at ease is to treat them as part of the Caring Smiles Family! She loves being able to offer a busy mom the chance to relax, sit in a comfortable dental massage chair, and watch her favorite Netflix show.
After raising two children, Marie now enjoys her free time by biking up and down the Westside Regional Trail, gardening, kayaking, walking her collie, volunteering at church and traveling with her husband. Marie and her husband also enjoy visiting family in Florida and the Chicago area.
Caring Smiles Dental
As a southern California transplant, Cindy has called Oregon her “home” for the past 28 years. She joined the Caring Smiles Dental Team in 2023 and brings over 30 years of experience with her. Trained formally as a dental assistant many years ago, she now offers her extensive knowledge and expertise to the Caring Smiles team, as well as our patients. Whether it’s taking care of patients, coordinating dental plans with doctors, updating insurance information or answering questions about dental procedures.
As mother of four adult children and 6 grandchildren she enjoys spending time with her family as much as possible. Camping, cooking, thrift shopping, traveling, and playing in a Texas Hold’em poker league are some of the things she enjoys in her free time. She and her partner live in Hillsboro and have two dogs, McCree and Sophie.
Dental Assistant
Amanda has worked as an extended functions dental assistant for several years and joined Caring Smiles Dental in 2019. She enjoys meeting and helping patients feel comfortable, confident and welcome at Caring Smiles Dental. Amanda is dedicated and provides excellent care for each patient. Amanda is excited to help patients have their best bright smile. Caring Smiles Dental is grateful for Amanda’s positive attitude and amazing work ethic.
Amanda is a long time resident of the Portland area. In her free time she enjoys her daughter, spending time with family and friends and exploring the next awesome park.
